Kristaps Porziņģis to miss start of Warriors training camp with health issue

When the Warriors head to Hawaii for training camp on Monday, big man Kristaps Porziņģis will not be on the flight.
General manager Mike Dunleavy revealed at Golden State’s media day on Monday that Porziņģis is dealing with an unspecified health issue and will be out for the start of the preseason.
“Kristaps is going to be out indefinitely with a health issue that I was informed about yesterday, so he’ll miss the start of camp here. Don’t have a timeline for him or anything further than that,” Dunleavy said, adding that Porziņģis was at the team facility the previous week and was doing well at the time.
When asked if the current problem is related to postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) or a similar issue Porziņģis previously has dealt with, Dunleavy replied he was unable to comment further.
The return timeline for the 31-year-old, who missed a number of games during the 2025-26 NBA season with vague health concerns, isn’t clear so far. But Dunleavy didn’t say Porziņģis would be out for the start of the regular season at this point, instead stating, “He’s just not available this week.”
The Warriors already are set to be short-handed to start their upcoming campaign, with Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody both recovering from long-term knee injuries. The team announced Monday each player has progressed in their rehab to “very light on-court activities,” but their exact return dates remain uncertain.
Both Moody and Butler will be on the plane to Hawaii, though, unlike Porziņģis. In late June, the Warriors signed the Latvian veteran to a two-year, $40 million extension before he was set to hit free agency. Still, Dunleavy said the Warriors “feel comfortable with everything” regarding his health.
“Disappointed that he won’t be out there tomorrow, but it’s early, so don’t want to overreact to anything,” Dunleavy concluded.
Coach Steve Kerr didn’t have much more to add on Porziņģis’ status, explaining he had met with the veteran a couple of times the previous week, “but nothing in depth.”
“It was surprising, but you know, this is all part of the season, the health of the team. Things happen, so you just roll, roll with it, and keep moving forward,” Kerr said. “We don’t really know what it means. I know Mike addressed the issue, so I don’t have a whole lot of information for you, but we’re going to get going with camp and fully expect him to be with us at some point.
“There’s not a whole lot to report at this time.”
It appears as though the Warriors — and Dub Nation alike — simply must wait and see.
