Returning home to play against your former team usually is a bittersweet moment, and Thursday night was no different for Klay Thompson.
The Warriors took down the Miami Heat 120- 100, but it was Thompson coming back to Chase Center that made the matchup even more meaningful.
After the game, Thompson was asked if he thought about signing with the Warriors this offseason.
“A little bit,” Thompson said. “And I’m so grateful for the support I have in the region. Just going to breakfast this morning and seeing familiar faces, it was awesome. And I’m very, very grateful for the fandom. It really inspires me to keep going.”

Steph Curry didn’t hesitate to have some fun with Thompson during the game either, posing for a picture during the action.

Thompson, of course, is a Bay Area legend who spent 11 seasons with Golden State and was a part of four title-winning rosters.
Curry’s “Splash Brother,” Thompson is widely considered among the greatest shooters of all time, hitting 41.3 percent of his 3-pointers during his Warriors tenure and making five All-Star teams.
Thompson’s returned from ACL and Achilles injuries to help Golden State win the 2022 NBA Finals but ultimately was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in a six-team deal after the 2023-24 season.
The Mavs agreed to a contract buyout for Thompson, who eventually signed a two-year deal with the Miami Heat, where he’s averaging 13.8 points per game on 41.3 percent shooting from distance in nine games.
Andrew Wiggins, who was traded from Golden State to the Heat in the Jimmy Butler exchange, also had a homecoming in San Francisco.
In typical Thompson fashion, he couldn’t leave without shouting out a local Oakland restaurant he visited during his stay.
“I don’t want to blow up the local spot, but it’s called Egg Shop in Montclair,” Thompson said. “Classic. The best waffle on the West Coast.”
Thompson might face off against the Warriors a few more times, but the significance of those matchups will always remain high.
