Cason Wallace to have surgery, could miss rest of the 2026-27 NBA season
Cason Wallace started the 2026-27 NBA season by getting a lucrative contract extension to stay in Oklahoma City with the Thunder as they looked to make another run to the NBA Finals.
Sadly, those hopes just took a major blow less than a full week into the season.
Thunder GM Sam Presti announced on Monday that Wallace has suffered a torn labrum and will require surgery.
With a long recovery timetable, a return this season looks bleak for the former Kentucky Wildcats standout.
Wallace has become a core player for the Thunder alongside SGA in the backcourt. Already winning one title, it seems this team’s window is still wide open with how many draft picks they have accrued over the next several seasons.
However, it will take a lot for them to make another deep run this season, especially with teammate Jalen Williams also being sidelined for most, if not the entire season due to a dislocated ankle and fractured fibula.
Here’s to hoping both of these guys are able to fully heal and return at some point this season.
